What Does It Mean to Work With a UKIHCA Registered Health Coach?
When you’re looking for support with your health and wellbeing, it can feel unclear where to start.
There’s a lot of information out there. A lot of advice. And not always clarity on who is qualified, experienced, or working within safe and professional boundaries.
Recently, I became a UKIHCA Registered Health Coach through the UK & International Health Coaching Association.
I wanted to take a moment to explain what that means, and more importantly, what it means for you.
A Commitment to Professional Standards
The UK & International Health Coaching Association (UKIHCA) is a non-profit professional body that exists to advance the health coaching profession, protect the public, and uphold high standards of ethical and evidence-informed practice.
Being a registered member means that I meet recognised standards for:
Training and competency
Professional conduct and ethics
Scope of practice
Ongoing professional development
It also means I am accountable to a wider professional framework, not just working in isolation
What This Means for You as a Client
At a practical level, working with a UKIHCA Registered Health Coach means you can expect:
Safe and Ethical Practice
You are working with someone who understands their scope and will always prioritise your wellbeing, including referring on when needed.
A Whole-Person Approach
Health is not just about one behaviour or habit.
Your health is shaped by your lifestyle, environment, mindset, relationships, and life experience.
Health coaching takes all of this into account.
Personalised, Client-Centred Support
You are not given a one-size-fits-all plan.
Instead, we work together to understand what matters to you, what is realistic in your life, and how to create sustainable change that you can maintain.
Support With Behaviour Change
Most people already know what they “should” be doing.
Health coaching focuses on bridging the gap between knowing and doing, supporting you to build consistency, navigate challenges, and create lasting habits.
It’s Not About Quick Fixes
Health coaching is not a quick fix or a short-term solution.
It’s a process of building awareness, confidence, and self-trust, so that you can take ownership of your health in a way that works for you.
This work supports sustainable lifestyle and behaviour change that can improve wellbeing and, in some cases, help prevent or manage long-term health conditions.
A Personal Reflection
For me, becoming a UKIHCA Registered Health Coach is about more than meeting a standard.
It’s about how I choose to practice.
It reflects my commitment to:
Integrity in how I work
Creating a safe and supportive space for clients
Continuing to learn and grow as a coach
Being part of a professional community that values reflection and collaboration
If You’re Considering Health Coaching
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start with your health, you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
Health coaching offers a space to pause, reflect, and move forward in a way that feels achievable and aligned with your life.
If you’d like to explore whether this could be the right support for you, you’re welcome to book a connection call.
